Prince Tour 98 ESP Tennis Racquet Review

The Tour 98 ESP is one of the most versatile tennis rackets on the market. It provides excellent stability, control and maneuverability on all types of courts.

It is popular for its large sweet spot which enhances the performance of this racket on the court and helps to increase accuracy of your shots.

Prince Tour 98 ESP

Because of its unique ESP technology, it is ranked among the top ten tennis rackets of 2018. Let me take you through a detailed review of Prince Tour 98.

Technical Details

A highly recommended racket which provides excellent control and comes with a 1 year limited warranty. It weighs 310 grams unstrung which is a bit heavy but will help a lot in generating extra power when swinging.

Tour 95 comes with a large head size and a bigger sweet spot making it a perfect tennis gear for the beginners and intermediate level players to benefit from.

Its string bed has a standard 16×20 string pattern with grommets that help to increase the contact time with the ball and thus increasing the accuracy of your shots.

Its frame has got the flexibility which makes it arm-friendly and the comfortable grip nicely absorbs the shocks and vibrations from your shots.

The Good

Below are the key features of Prince Tour 98 ESP:

Design

Its name Prince Tour ESP comes from the construction of its frame and the design it has. It has a kind of slick yellow and black color contrast which looks somewhat odd but quite appealing on the court.

One drawback it has is only one color scheme to choose.

For an ideal sweet spot construction, it has a large head size which is light in weight and helps in smashing the ball with maximum accuracy. This also helps to increase the stability at the time of swinging the racket.

Head Size

As mentioned above, Prince Tour 98 ESP has a large head size. This provides you with plenty of hitting area and to generate more power with every swing. Large head size means a large sweet spot as compared to the typical rackets like Angell TC97 Pro, Babolat 2017 Pure Drive and Babolat 2017 Pure Strike 16/19.

If you are a beginner who finds it hard to hit the ball at the middle, Tour 98 can really help you overcome those mishits.

Weight/Balance

Weighing roughly 12 ounces when strung this racket may not be the perfect to be called a light weight racket but this helps a lot in generating extra power in your shots. Because of this extra weight, even if you don’t generate a lot of swing power, it will still hit the ball with full energy.

Also the head light balance allows you to retain weight when you are in the hitting zone, thus allowing you to hit the tennis ball with optimum power.

In short, Tour 98 has the perfect weight and balance combination.

Damping

The head of Tour 98 has a special vibration dampening technology which helps to give you a comfortable feel when playing. It will reduce the vibrations and result in more power.

When the ball comes in contact with the racket, several different kinds of vibrations run through the frame of the racquet. If these shocks and vibrations are not properly dampened, this will result in a very uncomfortable feel and cause you to lose focus on your game.

However, with Prince Tour 98 in hand, you will get a very muted feel and be able to focus on your game.

Strings

Unlike other racquets, it has a 16×20 string pattern which is designed not only to smash the ball with maximum power but also generate that extra top spin. The extra dense string pattern also prevents the string bed from breaking or deforming.

What’s more amazing about this string pattern is its ability to blend durability and strength to generate some lethal shots.

Though not a feature but I personally felt that Tour 98 string bed helped in increasing the contact time with the ball which in turn results in more stability, power and accuracy in every shot.

The Bad

Here are some “Oopses” we found in Tour 98:

Weight

Even though it is a beginner friendly racket still we didn’t like the extra weight it has in its body. If you are a complete noob to this game, you may find it a bit uncomfortable to swing the racket.

Pay Extra for Bag

This racket comes with a 1 year limited warranty and a fair price tag but still you have to pay extra for the complimentary racket cover.

This cover has a thick padding inside to protect your racket from bumps and has a shoulder strap as well to carry it easily anywhere you want.

Material & Construction

Prince Tour 98 ESP

The shock and vibration dampening frame is constructed from high quality and durable materials which are made in USA. This helps to add a lot durability and stability in the overall performance of the racket.

Its grip is made very comfortable and has a thick padding inside which nicely absorbs the shocks around the handle and prevents any discomfort, allowing you to maintain your focus on the game.

Overall Performance

With all that said, one thing we can guarantee is that Prince Tour 98 ESP has all the features that a beginner and intermediate level player needs to improve his skills. It has a durable construction with shock dampening qualities.

Who is it for

Ideally this racket is perfect for the beginners and intermediate level players. Its comfortable play through style and frame features makes it an ideal racquet to improve your tennis skills and step up to the next level.

It has a natural spin potential and the extra weight in its frame helps to generate a powerful blow every time you swing.
